Summer in Copenhagen

This summer holiday we didn’t travel anywhere, mostly because we just got our kitten, Nimbu and he is not old enough to be taken care by others than us yet. I don’t mind not traveling during the summer because there are so many things to do in Copenhagen in the summertime, and this summer has been hot, too hot for my taste, so no need to go anywhere to get more heat.

If you ever want to visit Copenhagen and if you don’t live in Denmark I can definitely recommend it, and depending on what you prefer doing the different seasons offers different things to do.

Here are some of my favourite things to do in Copenhagen during the summer.

Harbour baths:

The harbours in Copenhagen are so clean that it’s possible to swim in them. There are several harbour baths and bathing zones where you are allowed to swim and it’s safe. The harbour baths have lifeguards from 10am-6pm in the summer season and the harbour baths are open from 6am-10pm. There are two that we frequent, the one at Sluseholmen or another one at Islands Brygge. At Sluseholmen there are mostly families and residents, so it’s usually not too crowded. Islands Brygge can be very crowded, especially in late afternoon, evenings, and weekends, because many young people go there to meetup with friends or party.

The beach:

There are really nice beaches in Copenhagen and outside too. We haven’t been to the beach that often this summer because it has been too hot. We have been at Amager Strandpark, it’s the nearest beach and the Metro stops right next to it. Amager Strandpark is a good place to go in the sea, have a picnic or have a good time with friends. 

Tivoli:

If you are in Copenhagen in the summer, Halloween, around Christmas time or basically any time during the rest of the year, you should go to Tivoli. Tivoli is an amusement park in the centre of Copenhagen and allegedly was the place that inspired Walt Disney to make Disney World. I would recommend making it a full day activity, try the all the different rides and enjoy the park. If you can be there one of the days where they have the firework show, you should go that day. The firework show is so beautiful and magical.
